Very good because it points believers in the right direction in life.
All the purposes that he mentioned, worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and mission was not something new to a lot of christians. I learned that many years (20+) back when I joined 'The Navigators' bible study. I was just a young christian during the time then and it was also through 'The Navigators' that I came to know and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.

Provocative
I really like it that the book talks about the real point of our existence. We belong to God, and everything in our lives should be to please Him. So true, and so forgotten in our modern society.
I'm very sorry that other reviewers were disappointed that this book isn't about a vengeful, wrathful God, but that's not who God is. I feel that Warren seeks to accquaint his readers with the loving God who humbled himself to the point of becoming one of us to teach us what He wants us to be. God doesn't want to send anyone to Hell, but He will not stop you if you really, really want to go there.
This book was a great reminder of how we need to strive to be. It made me feel guilty to be reminded that I'm not to live for myself, because I think we're all guilty of that brand of egocentrism at times.

Interpretation that is backed up by atheists throughout the book.
The PDL is filled with error and it can even be found on the very first page where the reader is to sign in agreement to “finding their purpose” in 40 days. Is Rick Warren in the position to uphold this agreement? The Bible tells Christians not to enter into any convenants. For a man cannot assure any such agreement. Only God. Also, why does Rick Warren continually quote non-Christians throughout his book? He quotes people who are panthiests, agnostics, and just about everything else.
Rick Warren has also written the Purpose-Driven Church. He makes sure to explain that talking about sin and the Cross is too offensive and should be left out of Sunday sermons. ???? The focus should be entirely on Jesus and Him crucified. Rick Warren is so afraid of offending people that he is against preaching what Jesus preaches. I’m sure Saddleback is filled with people who think they are Christians but in reality they have no idea.

Incomplete doctrine & seeker-senstitive
Many of the statements Rick Warren uses in his book are true, and he does use a lot of Scripture to proof-text his points. HOWEVER, the problem is not neccessarily with what he says, but with what he DOESN'T say. There is no mention of Biblical repentance, God's holiness, righteousness, judgement, or wrath. And MANY of his Scripture references are taken out of context, which alter the meaning of the passage to fit his seeker-senstiive agenda. In my opinion, a non-believer or young Christian reading this book will unfortunately come away with a shallow and superficial understanding of living the Christian life, which is to deny oneself daily, take up their cross, and follow Jesus Christ.

This book could also be epitomized as a Journey of how to find wisdom through God’s love as the chief biblical pillar of the book. All human characteristics arise out of guilt hallowed by shame, resentment sometimes anger by which many people are driven to understanding that life is a temporary assignment already preexisting before birth. The author of "The Purpose Driven Life" poignantly arrives to a very convincing driven force that life in short is summarized by love through God as a key success to please God.
Everything comes from God however difficult it may be for some unbelievers. What I find very convincing and it just confirmed my thoughts is that the universe is a Creation of God and therefore all belongs to him. Worshiping God is just a sign of glorifying the Creator and the Author of our universe. The author of The Purpose Driven Life convincingly describes that the beauty of the universe starting with Nature of the universe and / or man can only be the Creation of GOD by its irrefutable perfection that only God could have perfected the intricacy and complexity of the universe as well as human nature.
All was planned for and by God’s pleasure. Therefore trusting God simply means having faith that He knows what is best for us and whatever happens to us whether it may be pleasure or pain is God’s design. What confirms and confirmed my beliefs is that even pain should not be taken as a curse from God but rather as a plan from God that He has set for us in order to test us if we can still be faithful to him. God does not wish to offend us but rather to lead us to the glorification of life. But to reach a glorified life God is testing us step by step and the testing is sometimes painful but always leads us to a glorified and sublime moment. Any negative occurrence always produces a positive phenomenon. That’s God’s exaltation.
