Crazy Love
Overwhelmed by a Relentless God
Click here for a larger image

Author : Francis Chan

God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working at a list of do's and don'ts - it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love you will never be the same!

Have you ever wondered if we're missing it? It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you've verbalized it yet or not, we all know something's wrong.

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts-it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same.

Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Apr 24 2010 6:44PM  Disappointed with Works-based teaching!
The book began alright speaking of the awesomeness of God and committed Christian living. But chapters 4 and 5 and onward became very judgmental on the Christian community at large.

The book does indeed promote a works-type salvation. This line of thinking appears to come out of a teaching called "lordship salvation." Basically, it posits that the simple gospel message of Acts 16:30-31, John 3:16-18, Romans 4:5, Titus 3:5, and Ephesians 2:8-9 is not good enough for salvation. A true believer must also make God "the Lord of his life." Anyone who doesn't, is lost! But where does that leave the Corinthian church who were backslidden believers, but believers indeed, according to Paul (Paul refers to them as "sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy," 1 Cor. 1:2; he also calls them "brothers" several times throughout 1 Corinthians, although worldly or carnal ones---1 Cor. 3:1-3). What about the prodigal son who was a son when he was living with his father; he remained a son throughout the lengthy time that he strayed away, and was still a son when he returned home to the father. Or how about Lot, who lived in a backslidden condition his entire adult life, yet Peter commends him as a righteous man in 2 Peter 2:7. Chapter 5 of "Crazy Love," in my opinion, was especially mean-spirited and judgmental; If taken literally, it appears to send a large portion of the evangelical church (perhaps even the majority), labeled as "lukewarm" to hell. The book sets up a false dichotomy between believers who are sold-out to God vs. the average churchgoer who doesn't appear to be very committed or on-fire for the Lord. Guess where the second group is going? To quote Chan, pp. 83-84, "As I see it, a lukewarm Christian is an oxymoron; there is no such thing. To put it plainly, churchgoers who are 'lukewarm' are not Christians. We will not see them in heaven."

Jan 5 2010 10:19PM  Amazing! Life changing material if you dare to apply Chan's Biblical principles!
This book challenges comfortable cultural
Americanized Christianity. It provokes you to
action. The biggest sin you could commit is
to read this book and not allow the Holy Spirit
to change you. Don't buy it unless you are
ready for a life TRANSFORMATION!

This book wrecked my life in a way I needed so badly.... The back cover just intrigued me with the first sentence... I encourage anyone to read this book with an open heart and open mind. It has helped me to see why that one thing was missing...

Jun 24 2009 4:51PM  Clear concise and challenging book that will sharpen your relationship with God.
Just finished the Book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I can't believe the power
that God imparts in this book. People think they know what love is and how
to love, and some just might. This book will not only describe it to you in
detail, but will also show you and encourage you in what it really means to
love.

The primary focus of the book is of course Love, and giving God your best.
Isn't that what we do when we truly love someone. You jump through hoops
for them, are happy just being near that person, and desire a closer
relationship with that person.

When I first got the book I thought what a great idea a book that talks about
what it means to truly love God. When I started reading it I thought I might
not be ready for this kind of life changing love. To many times in my own life
I have given God leftovers like a begrudging tithe, a quick impersonal prayer,
maybe even sing a praise song. Was it my best? Was it even much of an effort
at all? Sometimes. When I finished "Crazy Love" I felt it sharpen my focus and
lead to a better understanding and perspective. Because that's what really
happens to us we loose perspective. The perspective that God brings through
Chan is sharp, decisive and powerful. I can't count how many times I had to
stop reading to praise God and consider what was just said. I praise God for
the revelation and know this book will bless you beyond measure. Enjoy!

Feb 10 2009 12:33PM  It was absolutley amazing!!
We have a youth minuster in town and he had the book. One of my friends had the book and I was looking through it and it just amazed me. They had passed it around and there were pens, different writings, pictures, and so much other stuff. They just wrote what they got out of the book in it right there for whoever read the book next got to read what God said to then. I knew then that I had to go and buy it so that I could start one of our own. It was so great. It is most deff a must read!!!

Feb 6 2009 8:08PM  Crazy wonderful!
I completely love everything about this book. I will share it, read it again and again, pray that God will use me to share his "Crazy Love" in a way that will be well-received, and recommend this book wholeheartedly. Might make a great T-shirt, especially if that would be a good way to start conversations. God''s love is exciting, even more so now that my perspective has been changed/amplified by this simple text.
